What is Scholarly Communication?
The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) defines scholarly communication as “the system through which research and other scholarly writings are created, evaluated for quality, disseminated to the scholarly community, and preserved for future use. The system includes both formal means of communication, such as publication in peer-reviewed journals, and informal channels, such as electronic listservs."
The Rowland Medical Library supports the Scholarly Communication initiative by striving to make information accessible to all. This is accomplished by supporting the open access business models and promoting scholarly publishing for students, residents, and faculty. The library works with several academic publishers to explore 'Read and Publish' agreements supporting open access to scholarly literature and fee-paid publishing opportunities.
