Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

Resources and Information related to the field and practice of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

If you have found that the evidence is valid, significant, and generalizable to your patient, you must decide whether and how to apply the findings to your patient's care. You must consider how the population, intervention or treatments can be generalized to your specific patient.
In this step, you will make the final clinical decision by combining the evidence,
your knowledge, and the patients' values and considerations.

Prior to applying your clinical decision, ask yourself the following questions:
  • Were the study patients similar to your population of interest? Do the results apply to your patient?
  • Were all clinically important outcomes considered and are the results clinically important?
  • Are the likely treatment benefits worth the potential harm and/or cost?
  • Can this practice be implemented in this healthcare setting?
  • What are your patients' values and preferences?
  • How can you help your patient make a decision?
