What are Altmetrics?
Altmetrics are alternative measurements determined through online interactions for tracking and measuring citation impact. While these measurements do not replace traditional impact measurements, they can enhance scholarship and research impact, especially for newer citations that have yet to be cited by other research.
Examples of altmetrics include:
- Usage (clicks, downloads, library holdings)
- Captures (bookmarks, favorites)
- Mentions (blog posts, comments, media)
- Social media (likes, shares, tweets)
